SAHI – Special Hessed Unit

The greatest thing in the world
is doing good for someone else

Thousands of teens across Israel are making giving a way of life

What is SAHI

Teens who choose to give —
and grow through giving

SAHI – the Special Hessed Unit (Hessed is Hebrew for loving-kindness) – is an organization that has been active since 2009 in neighborhoods across Israel's social and geographic periphery, running youth units from north to south (from Kiryat Shmona to Eilat).

The teens are the beating heart of the organization — they set up and run youth units in the neighborhoods where they live, make decisions and initiate projects such as finding people in need, delivering food anonymously, visiting isolated elderly people and Holocaust survivors, renovating homes for those who struggle, celebrating holidays in the community, volunteering with people with disabilities, and more. They become leaders of kindness in the communities where they live.

Our focus is on the teens who give: through volunteering, they gain a sense of capability and choose a positive path for their lives.

“I think SAHI brought things out of me that I never thought I could do — good things I never saw in myself...”
